To be eligible to apply for a security guard registration through the Bureau of Security and Investigative Service (BSIS), you must:

• Be at least 18 years old (BPC Section 7582.8)
• Undergo a criminal history background check through the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) (BPC Sections 7581 and 7583.9) and
• Complete an 8-hour Powers to Arrest and Appropriate Use of Force training. Current CA state regulations require that the Use of Force training be taken in-person from a licensed security training provider, in a classroom setting, with an instructor physically present.

Completely online Basic Guard Card courses are now prohibited by state regulations (BP Code § 7583.7(b)(1)). This course is in person and compliant with all BSIS regulations.
