Jeanine's dedication to global health and public service has made her an integral member of the Guardian Training Center team.
Bio
Jeanine Sommerville, MD, is a highly accomplished medical professional with over two decades of experience in family medicine, military healthcare, and medical education. After graduating from UCLA School of Medicine in 2001, Jeanine completed her residency at Providence Health System in Oregon, where she served as Chief Resident. She went on to serve as an active-duty Air Force physician, working as a Family Medicine and Internal Medicine Medical Director, Flight Surgeon, and Chief of Aerospace Medicine. Her extensive military career includes roles as State Air Surgeon for the Washington Air National Guard and Medical Group Commander.
Jeanine has demonstrated a strong commitment to service, not only through her military career but also in her extensive international humanitarian work. Her medical missions have taken her to places such as El Salvador, South Africa, Swaziland, Mexico, and Panama, providing crucial care to underserved populations. This global experience, combined with her roles in the Air Force and urgent care, has given her a unique perspective on medical care in high-pressure, diverse environments.
In addition to her clinical practice, Jeanine has served as a clinical instructor and mentor for a new generation of medical professionals, including Physician Assistant students and military medical technicians. Currently, she is working as a Family Medicine Provider and Medical Consultant, continuing her commitment to improving healthcare both locally and globally.
Jeanine's leadership in the medical field extends to her role as Medical Group Commander with the Washington Air National Guard, where she oversaw healthcare operations and readiness for both military personnel and their families. As Chief of Aerospace Medicine, she was responsible for ensuring the health and safety of pilots and aircrew, a role that required exceptional attention to detail and the ability to make rapid, high-stakes decisions. Her service during the COVID-19 pandemic further highlights her dedication, as she played an instrumental role in the response efforts in both 2020 and 2021.
Jeanine's contributions to healthcare go beyond the military and emergency medicine. She has worked in urgent care and family medicine for over a decade, offering compassionate, comprehensive care to patients of all ages.
